グーグルは7月14日、日本国内の企業や教育機関向けに、ノートPC「Chromebook」および「Chrome管理コンソール」の提供を開始したと発表した。

 Chromebookは、ウェブブラウザである「Google Chrome」を基本ソフトとしたノートPC。Gmailやドキュメント、スプレッドシートなどのウェブアプリが利用可能で、インターネット接続のない場所でも作業ができる。オフライン時に作業した差分データは、ネット接続時に更新される。仮想化技術やサードパーティが提供するソフトウェアを利用すれば、既存のアプリケーションも継続して使用可能だ。

 Chrome管理コンソールを使用することで、組織内で利用する複数のChromebookのユーザー、デバイス、アプリケーションなどを、管理者が一括管理できるようになる。なおグーグルによれば、Chromebookを導入する場合、従来のコンピュータと比較して3年で約50万円の管理費が削減できるという。
